Using EL406™ Combination Washer Dispenser to Semi-Automate an ELISA for Melamine
24 May 2010: Melamine is a nitrogen rich compound that has been used illegally as an additive that mimics protein in foods. This application note demonstrates the ability of the EL406 to automate the liquid handling tasks required to run the melamine ELISA kit from Abraxis. The melamine ELISA has the capability to detect melamine contamination in the parts per billion (PPB) ranges.

Non-Contact Acoustic Liquid Dispensing Systems: New Challenges in Automation and Implementation in the Work Flow
10 May 2010: Agilent Automation Solutions has published a technical poster that describes the integration of true non-contact acoustic liquid dispensing technology within an Agilent BioCel System enabling a new level of high throughput automation in a drug discovery environment. The poster describes the configuration of a fully automated compound management solution for screening and developmental assay plates.

Improving Quality of ELISA
12 Nov 2009: This application note discusses how home-made ELISA kits can provide the right antibodies and offer a higher level of detection if stabilised correctly. The AppliCoat Plate Stabiliser provides a stabiliser solution which is easy-to-use and has good storage stability for coated antibodies and antigens.

Alternative Methods for Measuring the Activity of Signalling Proteins
26 Oct 2009: This application note by R&D Systems describes alternative methods for measuring the levels or activity of signalling molecules. A range of kits are presented, including the Cell-Based ELISA which permits the simultaneous detection of two proteins in the same microplate well without the need for lysate preparation and the DuoSet ICIP-Kinase Assays which can be used to detect changes in the levels of protein or changes in its phosphorylation state.

High-Throughput Melamine Detection with SpectraMax® Absorbance Microplate Readers and Abraxis’ Melamine ELISA Kit
17 Mar 2009: This application note demonstrates how the melamine ELISA kit from Abraxis, together with SpectraMax, VersaMax, VMax, and EMax microplate readers from MDS Analytical Technologies, offer a quality assurance screening solution for the detection of melamine contamination in such food products as milk, infant formula, pet food, and confectionery. Complete data analysis is provided by SoftMax Pro 5 GxP software, an industry-standard analysis software for FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.

Microplates for Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISA)
29 Jan 2009: ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) is one of the most widely used biochemical method in laboratory analysis and diagnostics. Analytes such as peptides, proteins, antibodies and hormones can be detected selectively and quantified in low concentrations among a multitude of other substances. Additionally, ELISAs are rapid, sensitive, cost effective and can be performed in a high-throughput manner.

Disposable Spinner Flasks for Scale Up or Production of Proteins
20 Jun 2008: Suspension cell culture is increasingly being integrated into drug discovery campaigns, and suitable scale up vessels for suspension growth are evolving to keep pace. Corning’s newest vessels, the 1L and 3L disposable spinner flasks, are designed to be single use with no assembly required. This application note demonstrates the testing of these vessels with a variety of cell lines.

Human and Rat Hepatocytes Cultured on Ultra-Web™ and Ultra-Web Polyamine Synthetic Matrices show Enhanced Physiologic Activity When Compared to Collagen
06 Jun 2008: This application study examines the impact of the synthetic Ultra-Web surfaces on human and rat hepatocyte physiology and compares the results to those obtained on several biological surfaces including collagen and Matrigel. The advantages of using Ultra-Web Synthetic Surfaces over biological surfaces for improved hepatocyte function are described.

Old Assays, New Instrument ELISA; NADH and NADPH Conversion; DNA and Protein Quantitation
21 Apr 2008: This application note demonstrates how four commonly used absorbance assays have been carried out on the Omega microplate reader (ELISA, DNA and Bradford protein quantitations, as well as NADH and NADPH conversions). With the ability to read a UV/Vis spectrum (220-850 nm) at a resolution of 1, 2, 5, or 10 nm in about 1 second/well, the Omega can do absorbance assays never before imagined.
